Hebron VFD Carnival 6:30 – 10 p.m. Real, honest-to-Pete down home, old-time carnival with rides, funnel cakes, games, oyster fritters. This runs every Wed-Sat night through July 17. The fireworks on July 4th are awesome. www.hebronvfd.com/

Rock Hall. The Kings of Crownsville at The Mainstay. Rootsy sound that started in New Orleans and picked up influences from all along Rt. 66. 8 p.m. $15 www.mainstayrockhall.org

 

Georgetown. Blind Wine Tasting. See if your palate is as developed as you think it is. 12 wines to be sampled. Onancock. Onancock-Tangier Island Bay Day. Celebrating the start of the ferry from Onancock to Tangier Island. Mayoral tug-of-war, carvings demos, kayak tours. 3-6 p.m. www.onancock.org

Milford. Peace, Love & Horseshoe Crabs. Day-long celebration at the DuPont Nature Center focusing on the annual migration of egg-laying horseshoe crabs on the beach. Educational activities, silent auction, food, lots for kids to do. The overlook at the center is one of the better places for watching the crabs as they come ashore to lay their eggs. 9-4 p.m. Free. MAY 22-23

Laurel, DE. Strawberry Festival and Art Sale. Strawberry shortcake, strawberry pie, strawberry muffins. Strawberry ice cream. Strawberries by the pint. Also tours of historic houses in the town. 8:30- 5 p.m. www.laurelhistoricalsociety.com

 

May 23

Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge. Guided bird walk. Bring your binoculars, field guide, and camera, wear sturdy shoes (or boots), and slather on the bug spray and tick repellant. It’s worth it for the 2-hour guided walk through the refuge to check out who’s flown in for the weekend. Tour leaves the visitor center at 8 a.m. It’s free and there are no reservations required. www.fws.gov/blackwater
